Biography

Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, is the 38th and 39th Mayor of Busan. After majoring in sociology at Korea University, he became a journalist at the JoongAng Ilbo and then a professor of sociology at Dong-A University after studying more. He worked as a professor, engaged in civic group activities, joined the Democratic Liberal Party, and made his name known by working on a government committee. He has developed political capabilities by serving as the 17th National Assembly member, senior presidential secretary for political affairs in 2009, and the 29th National Assembly secretary-general, and was elected as the 38th mayor of Busan through the 2021 byelection. In addition, he is serving as the 39th mayor of Busan Metropolitan City as he succeeded in re-election in the 8th local election in June 2022.
