Biography 

On May 7, 2018, LaToya Cantrell became the first woman to be elected mayor of New Orleans in its 300-year history. During her first term, the Cantrell administration was fundamental in the signing of the Fair Share legislation, securing $200 million over five years for infrastructure improvements, as well as securing voter approval in 2019 for a short-term rental visitors tax and a $500 million bond issue. She also led the City of New Orleans safely through the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. As she enters her fifth year as mayor, she continues to prioritize issues surrounding public safety, infrastructure, affordable housing, climate change and enhancing quality of life.
