ESG Management Session
Rhee, Jay Hyuk Korea University Business School / Professor
Prof. Jay Hyuk Rhee has taught at Korea University Business School since September 2001. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the same school and obtained a Ph.D. in business administration from the Ohio State University before serving as a professor at San Jose State University.
At Korea
University, Prof. Rhee is a member of the ESG Committee, the head of the ESG
Research Institute, a member of Korea University Hospital’s ESG Committee and
Diversity Committee, the head of the Social Enterprise Center, and a member of
the Institute of Hispanic Studies.
Externally, he
served as a member of the Responsible Investment Subcommittee of the National
Pension Service’s Trustee Responsibility Committee, a member of the Corporate
Governance Committee of the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and
Sustainability, and the president of the Korean Society of Strategic
Management.
Currently, he
is the president of the International ESG Association, the chair of the ESG
Committee of Teachers’ Pension, a member of the Deliberation and Adjustment Committee
of the Win-win Cooperation Fund for Farming and Fisheries Communities, an
advisor to the Korea Listed Companies Association, the moderator of LG’s ESG
Expert Advisory Group, a member of Samsung Seoul Hospital’s ESG Committee, a
member of the ESG Committee of the Korean Southern Power Corporation, a member
of Kangwon Land’s ESG Committee, a member of KOTRA’s Deliberation Committee for
Global CSR Prorgrams, a member of the Operation Committee of the Institute for
Sustainable Economy and Society, the chair of the Sustainability Subcommittee
of the Industrial Policy Research Working Group, and the vice president of the
Korean Academic Society of Business Administration
Prof. Rhee is
actively involved in research, book writing, and projects in many areas of
interest including environmental, social, and governance
(ESG), corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainable development goals
(SDGs), business strategies, and global strategies.
He
has had his papers published in a number of journals such as the Journal of
International Business Studies (JIBS), a renowned international academic
journal in the field of global business. His books and other publications include
Stakeholder-Oriented Business: ESG Management in the Age of Stakeholder
Capitalism; Social
Values, ESG Management, and Global Strategies; Raising
Corporate Sustainability: from CSR to SDG; The Role of Corporate Sustainability
in Asia Development: A Case Study Handbook; Green Leadership in China:
Management Strategies from China’s Most
Responsible Companies; China Marketing of Hyundai Motor and Kia; and The
Current State and Implications of the Business Education Environment.
Prof.
Rhee analyzed the CSR rankings of Chinese businesses and multinational
companies doing business in China, the results of which were published in the
business magazine Fortune China. He also developed K-ESG, a set of guidelines
for investigating the sustainability management of Korean companies, which he
uses to conduct relevant assessment.
